The History of Art + Science Salons
After working together at salons in London and New York; styling hair at fashion shows and photo shoots in Paris, Tokyo, and Milan, four internationally known hairdressers came together in Chicago. Building on their experiences and shared vision they began making preparations to open a salon grounded on a simple philosophy: provide international style without a pretentious attitude.
Laurence Hegarty, David Raccuglia, Beth Lloyd, and Sally Raccuglia’s vision came to life in 1989 when they opened their first salon Art + Science in Evanston, Illinois. The salon was founded on the traditional European system of apprenticeship. This program continues to be the starting point for each of our stylists and colorists. Regardless of their previous experience, all potential stylists and colorists must successfully complete the apprenticeship program prior to scheduling appointments with our clients. The training received in our apprenticeship program is second to none and fosters an atmosphere of professionalism and creativity.
Within nineteen years, Art + Science has grown to three salons in the Chicago land area. The salons are unique from each other in many ways. However, they all offer clients a holistic and simple approach to hair in a creative environment using top of the line organic products including MOP, Framesi, ABBA, D:fi, and American Crew. At each salon the spirit of Art + Science is found in the team of talented individuals who have stayed true to the Art + Science philosophy.
