For our third Art + Soul event, we decided to go big or go home. As a company we came together and decided that the charity of choice was going to be NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. With their help and the help of ESP Presents, we produced a show with over 350 attendees at the gorgeous, vintage Ravenswood Events Center. There was live music by Cults, Morry Sochat and the Special 20s, a DJ set by DJ Intel and a live poetry performance by Anis Mojgani.
But the centerpiece of the evening, as always, was our runway show. As stylists we draw inspiration from every corner of the artistic world, and some icons are just too huge in our collective imagination. Art + Soul 2016 paid homage to music through the decades and how various artists have influenced and inspired fashion. We started with Elvis in the 50s, British Mod in the 60s, Siouxsie and the Banshees from the 80s, the hip-hop and R&B urban culture of the 90s and, of course, the legend himself: David Bowie.
