With the recent news of various business closures in the Chicagoland area, it is with a heavy heart that we at Art + Science have decided to close our doors effective immediately. We do not have a concrete open date as of yet, however, we will be updating this website with information as we receive it. The health and safety of our employees and clients is paramount, and we believe closing is the most responsible and effective solution during these trying times.

If you currently have an appointment on the books during the closure, we will be calling to reschedule as soon as we have a definitive reopen date. All clients who need to reschedule will be given booking priority as soon as we begin fielding calls once more. We apologize for any inconvenience but thank you for your patience, your understanding, and your support!

In these extreme times, we want to make sure that our employees are paid and stay healthy during our closure. We pride ourselves on offering employee benefits that are unparalleled in our industry, however, we’re a small business and any closure can be a massive strain. We know that many of you are facing economic hardship because of this pandemic, however, if you are able to support the salon during this time, we have decided to offer our gift certificate promotion early in order to help us cover payroll and health insurance costs.

During the closure, if you purchase a $100 gift certificate from Art + Science, you will receive a $10 thank you as a credit. It will be kept on file until your appointment once we reopen. To purchase please email General Manager Andrew Mooney at Thank you for all of your support throughout this difficult and trying time!

We thank you for being incredible through this trying time and we can’t wait to see you soon. Be kind to one another, stay safe, stay healthy, and STAY HOME!

Yours in service,

Art + Science

David Raccuglia

is the original founder of Art + Science and has been an integral part of our vision since day one. In 1993 he created American Crew in the back room of our Evanston location as a way to welcome male clients into the salon. It has since grown into a global brand and David has been instrumental in the creation of numerous product lines such as MOP, MENSDEPT, and Reuzel. Beyond pioneering the men’s grooming industry, David has photographed cultural icons and luminaries such as Iggy Pop, the Dalai Lama, Yoko Ono, Gary Oldman, Ray Charles, Jack Nicholson and Rob Lowe. You can follow him on Instagram @david_raccuglia_photography to see just a sampling of his incredible work.

Paul Wilson

has been cutting hair with Art + Science since 1997, when he joined the American Crew All-Star team. He quickly became a managing partner as well as the Global Artistic Director for American Crew. Paul’s education comes from all over the globe—from Toni & Guy to Vidal Sassoon—and he puts it into action as a head educator for our cutting and barbering apprentices. His creative work has been on stages from Rio de Janeiro to Prague to Melbourne, and he has been featured in Salon Today, American Salon, and many other publications. Not only is Paul an incredible artist and master of his craft, his seemingly endless energy and drive set the tone across all four of our locations. Sit in his chair and experience it for yourself — book an appointment today.

Managing Partners

A salon is nothing without its leaders. Our managing partners are three stylist/colorists who have not only been with the salon through thick and thin but massively contribute to the daily life. George Accattato, Susan Hurley and Amy B. White have each been behind the chair with Art + Science for more than 20 years. All three are leaders of the highest caliber and know what makes Art + Science truly special. George and Amy are partners in our Evanston location while Susan Hurley is both our Education Director and partner of our West Loop and Wicker Park locations.

In a salon where education is so essential, to become one of our educators is truly an honor and a responsibility. Every one of our educators has proven themselves through both technical and leadership skills as well as business savvy. All have been individually selected to help craft the new generation of Art + Science stylists, barbers and colorists. All of our educators work behind the chair, so they can walk the walk while also talking the talk.

Social Impact

We are dedicated to giving back to the community. In 2016 we formed Hair Cares NFP—a 501(c)3 not-for-profit—to help us raise money for causes near and dear to our hearts. Our biggest annual event is the Art and Soul fundraiser, an evening of fashion, music and giving. For more information, contact Kelley Menighan, Community Outreach Coordinator here.

Since the creation of American Crew, we have been dedicated to the art of men’s grooming, and in 2012 we created a barbershop space in each of our full service salons. In 2015, we founded our first standalone Barbershop in Logan Square. Our barbers have been trained by the best men’s specialists, from American Crew All-Stars to Schorem, the Scumbag Barbers of Rotterdam, Wahl and more. At each of our barbershops, both in-salon and standalone, we promise a relaxed environment and the best haircut of your life. Our haircuts are classic barber shapes, and all genders are welcome in our chair.
